The original tape used for transcription was poor quality with much inaudible or indecipherable. (.........) indicates that a short or longer section was inaudible, or that there was a pause in speech. Rose also frequently talks below his breath, so to speak, or in a lower volume when he makes a particular point or comment, which are usually inaudible. Questioner's comments are almost always inaudible, and a general comment is made of the general gist of the question if it can be guessed. I tried not to guess at words, but do a strictly verbatim transcription, but with occasional paraphrasing and guessing. If something strikes you as wrong in transcription, it possibly is.
