This talk was done by Emmanuel Arthur in April, 2009.

The transcription was originally titled: "1980-Metaphysics-Columbus"

There are some parts of Q and A that are not in the transcription.

There's a reference in first paragraph to a recent talk in Pittsburgh on same topic, recently.

Need to identify that talk - may help date this one.

Dave Mettle's tape says "Winter", with "Fall" crossed out.

Rose mention that the TAT Journal w/ Aborigines article is about to be published; has advance copy.

At end of talk someone mentions Psychology of the Observer, so the book was already published by this talk.

Hi Art, PC -

Would you happen to have the publication dates for the old TAT Journals?

Specifically I'm looking for the date of TAT Journal Issue 10, which has Jaqua's story on the Australian Aborigines.

Probably is late 1980. Copyright date is 1980.

Apparently the schedule was irregular by that time.

The following Journal, #11 is copyrighted 1981. It has John Lennon's horoscope. He died Dec 8, 1980.

I'm trying to date a talk: "1980 Metaphysics Columbus" -- and in that talk Mr Rose mentions that he has an advance copy of the Journal (with the article on Aborigines) in hand and it will soon be published.

From PC:

I don't know the actual publication dates of the Journals. You may want to try contacting Jake, who did all of the heavy work in converting the Journal text and images into digital format. When I was working with him about 10 years ago on this project, he remembered numerous details about the Journals...

From Art:

I don't have a clue, Steve.

If I remember right, Bob C. did the printing of the Journals. Don't know if there's a chance he might recall or be able to guess when Issue 10 was published.

As luck would have it – I just happen to have a copy of that issue on my book shelf.

But I’m not sure what your question is? The copyright is 1980. Rose was adamant about not publishing a specific date because he didn’t want the printed copied to become dated, and undesirable as “old” editions – so it was in 1980, but I cannot prove what month it was. My hunch is April, but I don’t know where I am getting that from. It couldn’t have been much later than summer because there are ads for events in November.

This was from an era when I lived in Bellaire, OH and was printing these books with Paul Cramer and taking the signatures to Pittsburg for binding. I’ll bet Paul Cramer could find verify.

On page 2 there is a 10% off coupon for The Survival Center in Ravenna, OH that is valid through Dec. 24, 1980.

What I'm trying to nail down is whether the "1980 Metaphysics" lecture was given in the winter of 1980 (Jan-Feb-Mar) or the fall of 1980. Some tapes say one, some the other. Dave Weimer's tape had "fall" crossed out and "winter" written over it. During the talk Mr Rose mentions the Journal issue coming up, with an article on Aborigines, so a Journal date would help to date the talk.

The Journal ads that mention events in November and the coupon date of December would suggest fall, because November wouldn't register on most people's calendars as early as April. Nice that you have the hard copies because that info isn't on the web.

Winter would be the date if Journal issue 10 was in April as is your hunch, and you are known for highly accurate hunches. The only hitch is that issue 11 was copyrighted 1981, which means there would have been a long break between 10 and 11.

I'm not expecting you to pick up on all these details (below) just putting them here for reference.

Another possibility is to try to date some of the material in issue 9 (undated) which contains "Defining the Truth-Grand Work of the TAT Society" and an article on sexual energy by Jaqua. There's also a piece "Invitation to Nonsense" which R gently ridiculed in some talk, so if I could find that talk it might help.

TAT Journal issue 8 is dated Summer 1979, so there was quite a gap between issues at that time. Issue 7 was Spring 1979.

It's a little jigsaw puzzle, but maybe a clue can be uncovered someplace, such as a newspaper article..

Retrospects only go up to 1979.

Another side issue is a missing tape which I have tentatively designated as "1980-Winter-Metaphysics-St-Stephens-Pittsburgh-missing-tape" in part based on comments by Rose in the other 1980-Metaphysics tape that he was recently in Pittsburgh and covered the same material then. Trouble is, I can't remember where that venue info came from, and additionally, it was the Columbus group that was meeting at St. Stephens Episcopal Church (Woodruff and Hyde) according to another tape. Is there even a St. Stephens in Pittsburgh?

Also:

I see a copyright date 1980 on issue 9, even though the issue is undated. So that would mean that 10 was the second issue of 1980.

Also:

The version of Issue 9 on the web is copyright date 1980.
